The Government of India has officially outlawed BS3 gasoline and BS4 diesel automobiles in Delhi due to the rising levels of pollution. This action has been performed in response to Delhi’s ongoing flooding to reduce pollution levels. The Graded Response Action Plan, or GRAP, is now in place to address hazardous pollution levels. When pollution levels get to unsafe levels, GRAP regulations are applied.
Delhi vehicles ban BS3 Petrol and BS4 diesel
The capital of India, Delhi, is home to millions of automobiles each day. Delhi is the busiest city in India, which contributes to the greatest level of air pollution in the country. And as a result, as soon as winter hits, the amount of pollutants increases really quickly. In addition, the administration is getting ready for the approaching Diwali.
In an effort to lower pollution levels, the Delhi government has enacted Rule 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GRAP). This rule prohibits the operation of BS3 Petrol and BS4 diesel cars on the road until further notice. The Delhi Transport Government has put this ban in place.
When one’s pollution level exceeds 400–500, or an extremely harmful level, GRAP Stage 3 is applied. There’s no indication that things will get any better in the upcoming season; in fact, the Delhi government is poised to enact more rules soon.
You should use caution if your car is also a BS3 Petrol and BS4 diesel vehicle. You shall be fined Rs 20,000 if the regulations are discovered to be broken. In addition to the fine, you will also be subject to penalties under the Motor Out Act of 1998. Nevertheless, certain special vehicles and emergency response vehicles are exempt from this regulation.
What is GRAP?
Granted Response Action Plan, or GRAP for short, is what’s used to achieve this and monitor pollution levels. GRAP consists of four components in total. Phases 1 and 2 of GRAP have already been put into practice.
As per Stage 1, it is employed in situations where the pollution level falls within the poor range of 200 to 300. Older gasoline and diesel vehicles are prohibited at that point.
A star enters Stage 2 when it moves through 300–400. Furthermore, this level is regarded as hazardous. And the locations with higher pollution levels take severe action when this occurs. For instance, during this time diesel automobiles are prohibited.
There are between 450 inside stage 3. Additionally, BS3 and BS4 cars are prohibited after obtaining this level. Old motorcycles are also included in this.
We anticipate seeing Stage 4 in the upcoming days. At this point, the pollution level starts to get serious as the level crosses the 450–500 mark. Four-wheelers registered in the states are currently prohibited from entering Delhi. From outside Delhi, you are not allowed to bring additional vehicles inside. However, you are allowed entry if your car is a BS6, CNG, or electric vehicle.
In addition, there will be some unique vehicles for which this rule will not apply.
For cars running on CNG and electric
You can drive a CNG or gasoline-powered vehicle on the roads with no issues. In addition, you are permitted entry inside if you are traveling from any other state to Delhi.
