The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has changed with the Indian Premier League (IPL). This cash rich league which has been running for the past 15 years is ruling the world of cricket. Players from all over the world queue up to play this rich league. The power of this league can be understood from the fact that international cricket is stopped for two months due to IPL. The BCCI, which introduced two new teams in the IPL 2022 season and earned thousands of crores of revenue, has decided to organize the women’s IPL from next year.
The minimum franchise price is Rs.400 crores:
Arrangements are also being made to organize it in March next year with five teams. But before the start of the league, BCCI has focused on the process like selection of teams and bidding of players. In this order, it seems that the minimum price of a franchise has been fixed at Rs.400 crores. Although it has not been officially announced, according to BCCI sources, it seems that the tender process will be held soon. The process of selection of franchises through auction will be completed like the selection of new teams last year.
With the price bought by Mumbai Indians :
In 2008 when the first IPL was held, Mumbai Indians was the most expensive franchise at Rs. It seems that BCCI has fixed the minimum franchise price of Rs.400 crore based on Rs.446 crore. A board official revealed that the BCCI has decided the minimum price after doing some study on the demand and interest in the market for women’s IPL franchises. BCCI estimates that each franchise is likely to be sold between Rs.1000 crore and Rs.1500 crore. Whoever quotes more than Rs.400 crore will get franchises.
To be paid in five years :
The franchisee who wins the bid in this auction has to pay the amount to BCCI within five years. By selling these women’s IPL franchises, BCCI is looking to earn between Rs.6,000 crore and Rs.8,000 crore. Currently, BCCI has given an opportunity to the men’s IPL franchise owners to participate in the bidding. In this regard, English Premier League and Women’s NBA in America are being considered.
Interest of IPL franchises :
When EPL started Women’s Super League for women, all 12 EPL club owners bought these teams. In America, the owners of four men’s teams have bought eight franchises in the women’s NBA, while four others have done so. Men’s IPL franchises are showing interest in buying women’s IPL teams. Along with Mumbai Indians who bought franchises in foreign leagues, Rajasthan Royals, RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad are making efforts to grab women’s franchises.
